Bike maintenance that is.

I'm really lazy.

Are there like spring bike maintenance parties I can go to draw on the motivation of others?

Valve broke on my front inner tube a month ago...I haven't changed a tube in forever.

But I'd like to be more hands in with the bike.

Some councils like richmond offer facilities where you can do maintenance with the support of someone who knows what they are doing as required

Evans do classes too, £15 IIRC

Question is, do you want to be that person who gets a puncture while riding in a group and has to say 'Can someone help? The last time I did this, Beer helped me.'

It all starts with keeping the bike clean.
Thats when you get into the nooks and crannies and notice that cable is fraying, or that jockey wheel is looking very worn or some other such malady .
Then put some soothing sounds on (8 hours of thunder and heavy rain anyone?) and fettle away in your own little world
I`m taking my own advice here and have just put some ambient sounds on.Lovely.

Maybe get a starter tool kit, check Youtube for tutorials and Robert is your fathers brother.
The only jobs beyond me now are facing of bottom brackets and head tubes and wheel building.
I`m currently looking to source all the tools to fully service my five sets of Hope Pro 3 hubs (bearing drifts and such like)

Don`t be afraid of it Tin Pot.It`s not always easy but it`s always highly satisfying when the job is done.

Chill a nice bottle of beer or even a glass of white. Turn on the speakers with a couple of slow rock numbers. There is nothing in the manual that says that you cannot have a good time when doing maintenance.

Just get on with it.

You see what you did?

Has something changed about tyres since the eighties?

Stick lever in under lip, lever tyre over rim, do again with second lever, slide lever round rim so one edge of tyre is off. Then pull out old tube, replace tube under tyre, partially inflate, lever tyre back on, fully inflate.
