But the worst memory? That still has me wincing? That's right. Being forced every Sunday afternoon to attend the Bollywood movie at Barking Picture house by my parents. Five hours of badly dubbed, badly sung, overly sentimental, depressing, badly plotted, badly-acted nonsense of a musical as everybody ate stale home-made parathas, ate tasteless salt and vinegar crisps and drank stale fizzy coke, whilst shouting, farting, giggling and crying at the top of the voices. Nightmare.

And the outcome of this? That's right. A visceral, intellectual and intolerable hatred of musicals. When the slicked down, urban angst of punk appeared I embraced it.

But what do some fancy nancy European Film Producers do? Go to India and think that Bollywood is GOOD and go and make Moulin Rouge in homage. No, no, no. It is not good. It is entertainment of balancing plates on a stick type.

Give me Jarmusch every time.

Take it you haven't seen 'Lagaan' then?

I did, and my Indian meal afterwards (in Stockholm) tasted delicious!

I like The Blues Brothers, that's a musical. And I appreciate that The Sound Of Music is a good film even though I don't like it much.

srw

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Harrumph. The local transmitter is playing up and ITV is unwatchable.

So many people, work collegues, friends, etc., raved about this film for ages - I didn't hear anyone say a bad thing about it.

I'm not really a big fan of musicals but seeing as it had glowing reviews all-round Mrs 3BM and myself were quite keen to see it.

We were loaned the DVD and, in great anticipation, sat down the other night to watch it.

One of the worst films I've ever seen and as if the acting wasn't terrible enough wait until they start singing, it was shocking - we only managed 30 minutes or so, although it seemed like hours, before I pressed the eject button.

The chap at work who I borrowed the DVD from couldn't believe it when I gave him my critical assessment, appalling nonsense!

Is it just me or did anyone else think it was rubbish?

I took my dear old mum to the cinema coz she wanted to see it. Possibly the worst film I've ever seen - total b0ll0x. Vowed no more favours for old ladies!!!!

Mrs S and I eventually watched it a few months ago, and despite all the hype that surrounded it when it came out we were both left thinking........WTF?

Utter tosh IMO, (and Mrs S's)

Same goes for Chicago the musical in our house too.

We've now given up on modern film musicals

wonderful! Am now topping off my tan watching the end of Transporter 2. If only that nice Jason Statham could be persuaded to do musicals.......

Can I swap places? I'm in a hotel with an USAnian 'customer' who thinks Romney is the best thing since sliced bread and keeps mentioning that it would be good to get that nigger out of the white house ....

Went to the show in London during the opening week and loved it. I had the choice of any show and the Wife choose Mamma Mia and my thoughts were originally Oh No!

I also enjoy the film whenever we watch it.

But then I grew up watching musicals and shows in London. I also love opera and going to the theatre as do all my family.

Chris
