So many people, work collegues, friends, etc., raved about this film for ages - I didn't hear anyone say a bad thing about it.

I'm not really a big fan of musicals but seeing as it had glowing reviews all-round Mrs 3BM and myself were quite keen to see it.

We were loaned the DVD and, in great anticipation, sat down the other night to watch it.

One of the worst films I've ever seen and as if the acting wasn't terrible enough wait until they start singing, it was shocking - we only managed 30 minutes or so, although it seemed like hours, before I pressed the eject button.

The chap at work who I borrowed the DVD from couldn't believe it when I gave him my critical assessment, appalling nonsense!

Is it just me or did anyone else think it was rubbish?

Haven't seen it.

After the shock of Moulin Rouge (well, 10 mins of it) I don't think I'll ever be able to stomach a 'musical' again.

Bring back South Pacific!! :becool:

I'm not sure its a bloke film - more a girly one. I watched it - not expecting it to be brilliant and had a good time - its easy going, no major over complicated plot to follow and yes critique their singing abilities. Its great to watch with some friends whilst drinking a little wine and a box of chocs. Mr Summerdays hasn't been persuaded to see it yet:evil:

I came back from the pub to find my wife watching what appeared to be the end of the film. Julie Walters was singing (I say singing, but caterwauling would be more accurate) whilst wearing a catsuit.

Horrific.

A female friend of mine, whose opinions on film I hold in very high regard, loathed it. She classes it as one of the worst films she has ever seen.

Needless to say, I haven't been to see it.

I cannot abide the artificial concept of most musicals so refuse to go to see them. So, as a dutifull husband of 39 years standing, I recently bought a dvd of Mamma Mia for SWMBO. It's still sitting under the tv unit, gathering dust, waiting to be watched.

dvd may get binned soon and the case used for something usefull.

I thought it was great. Well, I say "great" but what I mean is rubbish. Well, I say "rubbish" but what I mean is that in preference to watching this I would rather enucleate both my eyeballs and then pour acid into the sockets in case a few optical cells were still conected to the nerve root and the brain might still interpret some of the images/shadows on the screen showing it.

Yeah, but... did you enjoy it? :becool:

I live in a house with three females (wife and two kids) and the flippin thing seemed to be constantly on for about two weeks.
None of them can sing. The women seem to penetrate through any wall in the house while Pierce Brosnan is about the worst singer ever.
I DREAM of only being subjected to 30 minutes of it!

Only glimmer of good from it ..
my nephew aged three (whos family also have it) goes around the house singing "Gimmie gimmie gimmie a man after midnight"
and in what seems to be a better lyric "Mamma Mia - Marmite, how can I resist you"
I think I could sell the idea to Marmite it would make a great ad.

one of the best films of all time. A work of genius, and of fundamental importance in the history of film.

now you're talking (reaches for shampoo bottle....)

I thought Mama Mia was ok-ish, but the Babe, who has impeccable taste, and who has forgotten more about films than I'll ever know, thought it was great. Thought Ms. Streep should have got an Oscar. So there you go....

Yep... Mrs RR got the DVD so we all sat down to watch it a few days ago; it was supposed to be a big family event, bottle of wine, nice warm fire, cat alseep on the rug... you know the scene.

I was asleep in 10 minutes, had a nap then got up and went to do something interesting like picking grit out of my brake blocks. I accept that it might be more fun in a theatre but the film was dreadful, unmitigated tosh from start to finish, definitely a woman's film.
