A man was arrested in the early hours of this morning, and is currently being held by the Police in what they described as a well-planned operation. The man, age unknown, was described by a Police spokesperson, who declined to name the person being held, as being "dressed in a red and white outfit, slightly overweight" and is also said to have had a escape vehicle ready. The vehicle has been impounded by Police and will undergo tests to see if it is the same one that was used last year at around the same time.
The Police said that planning for the operation in the early hours of the morning, had begun nearly a year ago, after they received similar reports last year of a man, fitting the suspects description seen entering numerous properties in the local area at around this time. Extensive planning led Police to the area that he was arrested in. He was allowed to enter the premises but was arrested upon his exit. His escape vehicle, a Sleigh and Nine Reindeer, along with a large quantity of goods that was in it were also seized.
They have yet to confirm the mans identity but they refuse to say whether he is indeed who he says he is, and if so would he be released in time for Christmas. If he who he claims to be, will he be charged with unlawful entry into private property? Bearing in mind that he was caught leaving one house with a sackful of what appeared to be well wrapped presents. Was he as he claimed at the time delivering and if that is the case why did he chose the early hours of the morning to do his "delivering"?
He could be clearly heard saying, whilst being led away, that he had taken nothing from the houses that he had been to, but was in fact leaving presents. Police described this as a "very poor attempt for an excuse and that given the time period in which he his said to have been operating a better excuse would have been expected from the man". His claim that his escape vehicle, which was parked on the roof of the premises, had flown in from the North Pole was immediately discounted by Police as a check with airfields in the region revealed that no unknown objects were reported on radar on the night in question. A worker at one of the airfields, who doesn't want to be identified, is quoted as saying "The only way in which a object can avoid being detected on airport radar is to fly so low to the ground that the surrounding terrain stops it showing on the screen, and given that this person was operating in airspace used by both civil and military aircraft to do so in a unlit craft would mean that he was putting not only himself in danger but the general public as well. The fact that he claims to have done this has got some people worried, others dismiss the claim".
It is not yet known if the Police operation that led to the man being arrested involved any outside bodies. If any were involved then it seems certain that charges, other than the breaking and entering charges now being faced with along with another 5,000,000 similar offences which the man has asked be taken into account. In the meantime the Nine Reindeer and the Sleigh are being kept at an undisclosed location whilst they are being tested. The man arrested was said to be TEN TIMES over the limit with regards to drink driving, this he said was due to people leaving drinks out for him. The man was unable to supply a reason as to why he chose to leave his vehicle on the roof. Neither was he able to explain how he had managed to get it there in the first place, as a special recovery team were brought into retrieve the Reindeer whilst a crane was brought in for the recovery of the Sleigh. This operation led to surrounding streets having to be closed off whilst this recovery took place.
Will he be charged with drinking and driving? bearing in mind his story that he had flown in from the North Pole? And when tested if found to be over the limit for driving, let alone being in charge of an airborne craft, where the effects of alcohol are highly dangerous especially at the altitude and speeds which he has claimed he travels at.
A police spokeperson has confirmed that the Sleigh which he was going to use, had no lights or markings apart from what he said was the lead Reindeer's nose, which apparently glows red. A colour more associated with the back of an aircraft, which could lead to some near misses whilst in the air and confusion near the ground, a red light approaching you at speed on the road.
Of concern to the military is how he managed to avoid being caught on radar. As yet there has been no indication that they have shown any interest in the Sleigh, but unconfirmed sources have said that a team from the Aircraft Establishment had been to see the craft. Civil authorities have been a little more forthcoming with their activities and it seems that they share the military view on the apparent ease at which he had entered the UK airspace undetected. But of greater concern is that there were no life vests on board, no lighting as would be found on a normal civilian aircraft so as to aid a visual detection, nor were any other safety devices fitted.
Further reports, again unconfirmed, say that a group of Government scientist are currently testing both the craft and the Reindeer but as yet they have not had the craft airborne, thereby lending weight to the earlier Police claims that he was in fact just another person who had got himself caught up in a life of crime. A Police spokesperson has said that it is a pity that someone of his talents could not find other employment. As was pointed out they required a crane and a specialist rescue team to lower the Sleigh and Reindeer to the ground. But here was this man who some how managed not only to enter a house without setting the alarm off, but had managed single handily to place the above items on the roof undetected by Police in the building or those outside.
The man is expected to be appearing later this week at a local court for sentencing. Which one is being kept a closely guarded secret, but it will have to be able to accommodate the Sleigh and Reindeer if the man decides to plead not guilty to the charges. A further charge may be added by the Ministry of Agriculture, Farms and Fisheries, which relates to the illegal importation and exportation of wildstock, and movement without any paper work. He could be faced with a further lawsuit brought by the Civil Aviation Authority for his claims that he has done this every year.
A local resident is reported as saying that “its about time something was done about people that break into other peoples houses, and the fact that he has asked for that many similar offences to be taken into account clearly shows that he had no intention of stopping, unless caught first”. The fall in the trust of the judicial service in this country led this particular resident to believe that it wouldn't be long before he was out and at it again.
