It scary when it as close to home as this but yet another person (cyclist) has been killed on the back road from Dunfermline to Rosyth (Grange Road). I cycle it often and its a reccomended route in Fife Cycleway Maps.

1am, I used to do shift work a long time ago, there's some very interesting people about at that time of night, sod all traffic and coppers does encourage people to drive fast and reckless

An Update from the Local Paper on the poor baker killed near Dunfermline, it just confirms how much of a horrible road it is

May the poor chap rest in peace and his family find strength at what must be a horrible time for them.

I don't usually respond to these threads(what can be said?) but this touched me.
I just hope the council responsible for this road does the rectifications necessary to make the road safer.

Tragic as it is, do they really think that closing the road is a good thing? I used to use this road a lot when I was younger, and it's no different from thousands of narrow roads around the country.

Would this not be the perfect place for average speed cameras? I assume speed is the main issue here?

It's just a back road, I'm sure they wouldn't even consider an AVSC. Saying that when I was younger, and I'm sure it's the same now, people used to use it as a place to have a bit of a race, but then you can get that on any road. They did (a few years ago) make several improvements on the road, but how do you make a road completely safe.

But if they are really interested in saving lives and not making money, considering the fact that there have been deaths on this road makes this one of the best candidates for AvSCs. At least that way, the road wouldn't have to be closed.

Good grief, sorry to hear that.

I'd be happy to see it closed if they're not going to upgrade it. Saves you around one minute in total instead of using the other much safer road to the East. No benefit to keeping it open, with the exception of the one, yes, ONE house on it, and it will clearly save lives if it's closed.

Ah, so it is a completely useless road then. Fair enough. Probably best to close it. But I still think this 'type' of road where there have been deaths is the best place for AvSCs.

You'd probably find that there's been more deaths on the road that goes past Pitreavie golf club than there has been on Grange Road. It's not the road that isn't safe, it's the people using it.
