Don't know the area but surely there are alternatives to the busy A38 and A52? There seem enough minor roads/streets nearby to plan an alternative safer route xx(?

But if you're not sure where's the harm in the way you're doing it now ?

It really slows down my commute - it's all plain sailing the rest of the journey (well, the way in anyway) - having to get off and walk just to get past that roundabout adds about 5 minutes!

Spoke to a cyclist colleague who comes in very early in the morning (well, by my standards - about 8am) and he says that early the drivers rarely stop at the lights by the ped crossings. Nice. Lots of HGVs crossing too who rarely see anything smaller than a hatchback so I'm still somewhat adverse.

Sadly not - if you zoom out a bit you'll see there's nothing else crossing the A38 for miles - it's like a river and this roundabout is the only bridge.

5 mins is not a huge delay - can you run with your bike to limit the delay?!

I'd take the safe option, but then I have been knocked off my bike by a driver who didn't give way on an island.

I have a similar problem, I almost never cycle over this island but take the underpass. People coming off the M6 really don't like giving way xx(

I figure its better to be safe than sorry, even if it does mean I'm jealous of the brave cyclists who go over the island and leave me miles behind!
