Ah, wasn't the Golf driver that tried to run me off the road in November near there....

I know it is not an appropriate response but if someone tried to grab me by the throat I might respond slightly more aggressively than the guy did in the video. I think the guy showed remarkable restraint which probably diffused the situation, I hope the police nail the driver.

I have to agree. I must say I would rather have seen a video of the driver with a large D-Lock embedded in his neanderthal skull as a result of that flagrant assault.

It's a pity none of the other passing motorists took notice and actually reported the incident.

I think the cyclist was far more restrained than I would have been although you never know what you will do until the adrenalin starts pumping.

Hard to tell from the video but is the driver deliberately swerving into the cyclist after he shouts at him there?

Probably because most of them would be sitting there enjoying the show, waiting for the driver to do what they all secretly want to do themselves.:boxing:

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not all out to get me!

At present when you are caught speeding some people get the option of a speed awareness course. I think in all instances where car drivers etc are caught carrying out these sort of moves they are sent on a bicycle awareness course. Turn up in tracksuit bottoms - given a hi-vis jacket ( we wouldn't want car drivers to claim they can't see them!), bicycle hemet and bike and taken out as a group into traffic to appreciate how vunerable they will actually feel or see how little they really know about the highway code. They may even appreciate the benefits and disadvantages of using a cycle lane.

If nothing else maybe a few miles on a bicycle will show how unfit they are.

"The victim has every right to be on the road and it is not acceptable that he has been targeted in this way."

Good to see that quote prominently on the BBC article.

Agreed.

Although I'm not sure this :

"The assault followed an altercation between the cyclist and the motorist..." is the best journalism. Surely more correct journalism would point out that the assualt followed a close pass by the car driver....

Has anyone noticed that this incident took place back in January? If so, why so long before police appeal for witnesses? The trail will have gone cold.

Because the traffic Police work very slowly in mysterious ways. I reported some dangerous driving six weeks ago and I am still waiting for the witness statement form they keep telling me they will send to me.

The advantage of video evidence is it is great reminder of what happened plus it never changes with time.

Do you think the motorist would have been even more violent if he had not been told about the camera?

Not so sure. TBH hats off to the cyclist. I would have reacted differently most likely, but you have to be VERY careful when defending yourself - one well aimed punch can kill someone (things like this are in the news every day), and wouldn't look good for the 'attacked' person 'defending' themselves, old duffer vs fit cyclist....

Very difficult situation.
