Manchester To Stoke Return??

Not the most glamorous route I know but I hope to visit some friends in the Stoke area and want to know a good cycle route there and back form Manchester ( a different route coming back)

My bikes is suitable for road and canal tow paths so I am looking to do quiet back roads canal tow paths and off road cycle paths

Any suggestions?

How long will it take?

The A34 is the most direct route but is not the nicest surface in many areas and can have fairly fast traffic, however you can avoid most of it by using the Cheshire lanes which are great for riding.Time would be dependent on how fast you are riding a road bike.

You can take the ncn route 55 from Marple which takes you
most of the way,Never cycled it myself tho,You can get to Marple
easily enough from Manchester by canal towpath

I live a few miles east of Stoke & my son lives near Carrington.It takes me 3 hrs ride time each way.

Drop down past Jodrell Bank and pick some back roads - try going west and then climb into Stoke via Madley and Newcastle

The m6 would be a good bet. Every time I use it go get from Cambs to the Wirral it's at a standstill North of SoT. You'll be fine, so long as you wear a helmet.
