Just bought my first vintage. Great condition just need to degrease cassette.
Maybe pick up some suspension forks later on. I’ve noticed there’s a lot of really nice cool vintage bikes for sale which are cheaper & better quality than new ones.

That looks fantastic.
Get rid of the yellowed plastic disc behind the cassette but definitely keep the original fork.

This is my retro MTB (your Marin looks better!). Slick tyres fitted, quill to ahead adapter and new headset cable hanger fitted.

I will keep the cro mo fork. Just change grips for some fresh ones. Possible seat change. Get rid of yellow discs. Probably quil stem adapter and shorter stem. Pedals replaced maybe new chain. Some new tan wall tires would set it off nice too.

I have put the smoke & dart combo on. It looks real bad ass now. I’ve got some purple bottle cages and purple bar ends to put on later. It’s going to scream out 90’s.

Always wanted a Marin. This jealous dad bought his son one a couple of years back

Should I raise the bar ends higher up? I never ran them back in the 90’s tbh.

I would raise them a little, maybe in line with the stem.
It is personal preference though, take an Allen key out with you and adjust if necessary on your ride.
