I've put links at the bottom.

As you can tell my budget is not enormous ( ) but I'd really like to get something that can take me off the road a little way for weekend camping etc. I'm currently on a fairly basic flat bar road bike.

I like the fact that the Marin (in my size) comes with 650c's, although I read a review of the Specialized by a fellow similarly short person who didn't have toe overlap issues with the 700s on it. I think it would help me with getting seat pack etc to fit on the thing though.

I'm not going to be trekking off for thousands of miles on the thing (as much as I may fantasise about it) just weekend trips and probably a short (20km) commute here and there. I live in tow path and North/South Downs type terrain.

As you can tell I know next to nowt about any of this, so if anyone has an opinion I would be very grateful to hear it!

Or another option?

Note the pre-sale hire option, which might be helpful?

I'd been looking at the Camino too! Hmmm!

Hey Liz, I'm 5'4" but a bit short in the leg for that (grr) so the Marin does appeal. I'll have a think about a mountain bike - never dipped my toe into that pond! Could make sense, as I'd keep hold of my road bike either way I think.
