Matte paint finish on cars. WHY?

Poundland used to sell the paint for £1 a nice 2/3 coates would be more then enough and there was 5 of us who all used that paint and had a great effect with it to prep our cars we used an orbital sander and a couple of grits it was a rough key job that was it no where near the work like having a professional spray job and you tell me a place where you can get a proper spray job for around £50

I'm seeing matte paint on more and more cars.
Matte black is quite common now, but yesterday I saw a matte green car, it looked so bad that I wanted to ride up and tell the driver that his car looked totally ****e .
In fact all matte cars look ****e, matte paint doesnt work on something as big as a car, you can just about get away with it on a bike.
So why do people do it, usually to expensive cars?
ps This isnt the actual car, the one I saw was a Chrysler!

Come on you are not comparing like with like.
It is as hard if not harder to get a quality clean Matt finish as a gloss one. For one thing you cannot flat and polish any nibs.

My car looks a little like that but only because I can't be arsed looking after paintwork when a tin of polish probably coasts more than my car is worth....

Because its cheap involves naff all skills and barely any prep work plus it covers rust dents or any bad fixes in bodywork a whole car can be done for around £15 and if it gets keyed or scratched you just spray over it

It was originally for drift cars as they get so dented battered and covered in stone chips

Are you being serious? The car will have been vinyl wrapped not painted and cost in the region of £1000. Any muppet can hand paint a car but it will look rubbish.

You can buy from new Matt painted cars, not all are wrapped. Basically it is much the same as any base coat and laquer but a matt additive is added to the laquer before applying. Useless if you get a scratch or mark that would normally polish out, also hard for the painter to do a repair as in knowing how much additive to put in for the matt match.

I know not all are wrapped but the vast majority are. My reply was based on the guy saying he can paint a car matt for £15 which can be done but will look awful.

My weekend bike has a matte finish. It is loads better than any shiny ones. Especially red ones.
