At the risk of appearing uncaring, not really. He was already declared brain dead. I don't know about anyone else but I would rather be gone.

Yes. It's awful that a volunteer was so seriously injured as to be rendered brain-dead, but once in that state my personal view is that it's better for the individual and for family and friends that he dies.
