Hi, looking at buying a Raleigh sp 2013 carbon that's reduced to £750 from £1250! Also been offere a 2014 Merida 93 for 750 instead if 850! Merida is alloy frame and tiagra equipment but Raleigh is carbon but with lower spec equipment on it! Should I go for the Raleigh just because it's carbon? Iv been told it's a much smoother ride on a carbon frame! First road bike for many years so and advice welcome

Don't buy discount, buy product! My experience has been that a steel framed bike is the smoothest ride, and I have a carbon composite.

Carbon is a material which is available a varied range of grades. Just because its carbon does not make it good.
Its the same with Alloys and Steels... These materials are available in a wide range of grades... Stating a bike is made of something is meaningless.
