It looks like this ride is now going to act as a training ride for the Shakespeare 100 the following Sunday. I was going to do the 100 km edition of that, but I may now be doing the 100 miler instead!

Thats the one I looked at and decided not at that entry price.

Thanks for the invite on the other thread Colin. Unfortunately Mrs VC already has me booked up for that day.

Pretty good chance I'll be able to make the Meander now. I didn't post before as I wasn't sure the date worked.

It's a lot more than I normally pay because I usually ride audax events rather than 'sportives', but most of the entry money does go to the charity (unlike e.g. Bike Events events).

Never mind - perhaps one in October if I organise another one then?

Martin - I saw elsewhere that you are a fellow GPS user. My Garmin Etrex has been playing up so I don't know if it will be reliable for this ride. If you join us could you make sure that you have the route on your GPS just in case? Ta.

I know 50% of the route but I don't want to have to keep consulting a map for the other 50%. I'll probably write myself an audax-style route sheet but I don't have a separate bike computer so if the GPS is dodgy I won't be able to measure distances to turns accurately.

Cant do date, 11th would have worked for me though, perhaps next time
Oh well, watch out for another ride in October. It might not happen but I will still have my singlespeed bike in Coventry when I come down for my sister's birthday and if the weather is nice on Sunday 16th, I'd be up for another forum ride.

Saturday 15th would be do-able, but with a late start (England should be in 1/4 final for World Cup - New Zealand) that morning.
Sunday 16th - afternoon free only. Don't like giving up too many Sunday mornings to the bike.

Sunset is about 18:10 that weekend so I suppose a noon start and a 5 hour ride would be okay. Let's leave it until a couple of weeks beforehand and think about it then.

I'm still on for this as long as it's dry.

They've predicted 'heavy rain' for Sunday.

I'm hoping that that'll change. Fingers crossed.

I'm watching the weather as well

Both BBC and MetOffice forecasts are now saying that it will be dry.
Let's see nearer Sunday when they should have a clearer idea of what is likely to happen.

I can put up with sporadic drizzle but I wouldn't want to put with torrential rain for hours on end!

Likewise - no probs with a bit of rain, but no fun to have 6 hours of downpour.

Colin, did you see my PM?

Cheers

Sorry Martin - I was busy with wedding arrangements and forgot to reply to you.

I'm not sure what it is about my GPX files that higher end Garmins don't like. My bottom end Etrex loves them! Unfortunately, after 4 years reliable use it has just started losing satellite lock.

You might be able to simplify the route file to get a working one. It might be that there are too many trackpoints for your device. Meanwhile, I have printed out some maps of the route and will write myself a route sheet. I should be okay with the first and last bits in the SW, but I haven't ridden the NE part of the route before.

When I found the Route on my Garmin, it came up as "Route" rather than the name I'd stored it as. Also, when you look on the map, the route doesn't follow the roads - it's often in fields alongside.

If I get time, I'll re-input the route from scratch and store as I usually do.
