People often cite the lackof pong as an advantage to merino layers, but if I'm wild camping, it matters not a jot to me if I stink, and if I'm just out cycling for a day etc then my kit gets washed on return anyway!

I started using synthetic baselayers donkeys years ago, when I bought some berghaus "active comfort layer" kit for winter hill walking - in fact I have still got it, and still wear it, bit pilled and not the warmest anymore, but usable, and my reckoning is that it is getting on for maybe 19 or 20 years old! Since bought some other polartec baselayer tops and long johns and Helly Hansen lifa vests, all work fine. Can't justify the cost of merino to me, and like i say, smell is a bit of a none issue to me for how I use it.
