Merseyside: Whiston To Lydiate Route

Not really sure if belongs here or not in commuting, so if there is somewhere better MODs please feel free to move it.

Was thinking of Cyling from Whiston (L35) to Lydiate (L31) this afternoon. I want to try and keep it as Urban free as possible.

A lot of the routes, suggest the Liverpool Route line and the leeds liverpool cannal. I would like to try and keep it to the road if possible.

I was thinking of heading out towards Rainford, across the East Lancs before heading around the back of Kirkby and round to Lydiate.

Anyone know any suitable routes?

Anyone cycled along Old Coach Road? it marked as private but searching round the big wide web, it appears cycling is permitted. Runs from East lancs to Bickerstaff

I've not tried Old Coach Road but I cycle through Kirkby everyday, you could do Kirkby Row Glovers Brow, Prescott Road then Deyes lane that's decent road but all farmland surrounded. til you get to Maghull

Cheers, I dont think really much need to go through past the train station and come out by the Pear Tree Pub. A little out of the way from the direction i am comming from

The obvious route is out of huyton and then down Knowlsey lane until reaching the lights, maybe down Perimeter road and round to melling mount.

Just trying to see if there is anything a little quieter and more country lanes

I live near the Grapes on Prescot Road. One way for you is from Whiston, past the Wellington, head down Burrows Lane, Catchdale Moss Lane, down the Lancs on the cycle path then up Blindfoot Lane to the Rainford Bypass (bike path either side). If you head up to Rainford Junction you can then turn left down Lodge Lane across country via Simonswood (your on the TOB route then btw - watch out for Wiggo graffiti). You could also continue down the bypass to the end and drop down through Liverpool Road.

Equally you could continue down the Lancs and miss out Rainford. Some great cycling in that area, my staple 20 miler is from the Grapes via that route, to the M58 and back again. Its lovely early or late in the summer.

That similar route i was looking at and probably will take something very similar. I just came across Old Coach road while messing round on google maps.

So would be interesting to see how suitable it is for a bike.
