Sadly Clarkson, as much as I like the guy, did kind of start this ball rolling.

Clarkson is a tit.He could be a great role model but I don't think he is.Unfortunately the petrol heads fall for it.

Yeah, he's Alf Garnett and its all a ruse, lol. I've encountered a LOT of cyclists on the web that like him and Top Gear, and rightly so - he is very good at his job... but some of the stuff he comes out with (be it speed cameras, motorway speed limits, etc) is obviously done for effect.
