I have 700x28 City Transworld tyres on my racer.

I got them for winter use as I go on lots of muddy and stoney back lanes but they are really good so I have kept them on for summer too.
Refletive side wall is OK but wearing off a bit now.
Done 1000 miles without a puncture (tempting fate there)
No wear showing on them at all.

I only have about 1mm clearance all round on the front forks so think a 32 is really no good for a racing bike.
I would recommend them for the puncture proofing a road bike.

I bought a couple of 700x28 Transworld City for £10 at one of those cycle sales advertised in the CTC mag. As you say, they are good for a bit of off road too.
