Don't knock it. I have invented a new form of training, which is largely based on the long-established, well-understood and frankly obvious principle of riding your bike a lot. I am going to be calling it 'dusty-binning'.....

I thought it was hill training on the flat you invented

That is implicit in the 'frankly obvious' bit.....

Our* Dusty (an Irish Wolf Hound) was raiding bins again, so I know the diet is working. The bin is loosing weight!

I have invented a method of resting your bum on the saddle while pedalling. It will henceforth be know as Vamping.

OK, so you have regularly Mickled of ShelBroCo'd your chain, so your chain will no doubt last much longer. Can you expect your sprockets and chain ring to last the same additional time ?
Well, a bit.
By keeping the chain well lubed and cleanish prevents wearing the rollers and what is called (wrongly) 'Chain Stretch'. A worn chain will cause sprockets and chain rings to wear quicker. So yes.
I'd also recommend replacing chains fairly frequently depending on your usage before they wear greatly. Chains are fairly cheap £15 for 9speed KMC, don't go for fancy coatings, they're of little value. For me that's every spring and then the Chainrings and Sprockets last for years.

Thank you for the detailed response. I agree with you, better to replace the chain and prevent sprocket and or chain ring wear, considering the cost implications. I will get a chain measurement tool and replace the chain in accordance with that.
