These sort of cable ties were invented by Satan and only his disciples use them.

Do not go near them!

For the last 20 years 'in-line' cable ties have been available which don't have the sticking out bits. Only 'Pound Stores' and other purveyors of tat to cowboys have continued to perpetrate the myth that the horrible original design of cable ties are the only option.

In-lines are not as common as you think, the industry just never went with them.

I use modelling spru cutters for a snag free finish - incidentally they also work much better than nail clippers for doing your toe nails.

I often leave the end long and tucked away so that I can release the tie and reuse it.

However, I would otherwise carefully slice the waste off with my Leatherman blade so it is neat and snag free.

I also have, and use, stainless steel ties, like the ones you find holding street signs to posts, and I have the all in one tensioning and cutting tool too. They are very strong.
