Milan any good for swanky weekend away?

Limited number of destinations from London City Airport - close and very fast so no cutting into the weekend's travel time too much.

Is Milan worth a visit?

simple answer from him was to keep away ! ...thought I would Recommend Florence

Siena is worth visiting. An hour from Florence.
Trouble is LCY has 20 min checkin so we can be in there air within an hour from leaving the front door.

We've wangled a baby-sitter for 2 nights so want maximum holiday/ minimum travel. The destinations from LCY are limited so am working through those.

Yep, industrial capital, with a ring road from hell. I once hitch hiked home from Pisa and was stuck in Milan for about 24 hours because the trucker I had got a lift with had air hoses incompatible with the trailer he was told to fetch. Mind you, it was February, grey wet and slushy. ......

If you like fashion, then Milan is well worth a visit.

Yes, it is very industrial - but there are some fabulous places to visit, including:
  • La Scala Opera House
  • The Duomo
  • the church of Santa Maria della Grazie (to view the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci)
  • Terme Milano
Give Milan a spin - you'll love it.
Fashion? No me I'm afraid!
Are the other bits worth it without?

Definitely. If you like history, opera, museums, art galleries and churches then Milan is well worth a visit.

Apparently, they have football stadium that some people like to wander round as well... ;)

The outskirts of the city are very industrial but the city centre is a real jewel. It's compact and very easy to find your way around.

Plus there are some really good restaurants and bars...
Football?...shudder!

Ok, will look into the other side as I didn't realise there was much to see, ta.

I honeymooned in Milan - well brusano which is technically in milan (hotel in milan my arse) . best part of milan appart from the last supper - which took 3 attempts to get in to see, - was the train station - classic fascist architecture - and a train out of milan.
Florence or sorrento are far nicer.
