With so many cyclists of varying athleticism, ability and experience, and so many bikes of varying performance, it can get pretty anarchic on London roads in the rush hour. I tend to take the road less travelled on my commute, avoiding the main thoroughfares - and other cyclists - as much as possible. That said, I think the number of consciously 'militant' cyclists is negligible.

What always causes my head to shake is after arriving at the lights ahead of any other cyclist - there's usually someone who wants to squeeze between you and the car beside you and proceed to park - sideways - in front of you in the pedestrian crossing. What's wrong with queuing? I got to the lights before you, surely I'll be quicker off the mark too? Now I have to wait for you to sort out whatever you're trying to do before I can set off.

I think I had one of these "militants" this morning.

Pulls up alongside me at lights (about 12 inches away from me) on a far from quiet road. I thought it was odd (the space he had left between me and him) but the thought went. Then he decides to go through on red. I notice he doesn't have lights too (7:30am). I got pished off at this point and shouted "they're red for a reason". He either waved a thanks or did a one finger salute (i suspect the latter). he then barrells through the next set of red tarffic lights. Cock.

Perhaps it was the fact i had a child seat on that i was treated with distain.:cycle:

Right turn Clive ?
