I was being facetious, I thought everyone knew what a lathe was used for. I guess that is because most people I know are into mechanical engineering, I forget that sometimes. Sorry!

Turning is something that Thatcher wasn’t fond of, other than that it’s just a directional thing to me.

I have no idea if they do a metal turning lathe but when i was starting my joinery workshop i found record power to be the best of the bunch when it comes to the domestic machine price point . There are a few minimax machines in the record range so i assume they have the rights to build those machines .
Another alternative is Axminster tools but i think the quality is a step down from record .
Single phase machines are out there , my Wadkin Bursgreen machines are single phase and the one moulder that isnt is run off a phase converter although they can cost as much as the machine

I’m turning my attention from the garden to the garage and thinking about workshops and tools. A lathe sounds cool but I’m not sure I’d have any uses for one, and it will join the laser guided rotary saw gathering dust!

I'm still at the rough it out with an angle grinder and spend six weeks perfecting it with a dremmel stage.

It's quite compact. Pretty much the same as this (later) model.
Comes with stand, tooling, face plate, independent and self centering chucks, screw cutting gears etc.

Would love to have this but for 2 reasons, you are 300 miles+ away & I'm £748 short
