Sounds like you bought an MBK Mistral. I dont know much about them other than they appear to be French and they pop up a lot on Gumtree

If it's the one in the link as suggested by vickster it certainly wasn't cheap but I would say a fair price. Don't know why but mixte frame bikes seem to attract lower prices. Very nice bike though IMO.

It is as new condition got it for 52 quid seemed a bargain

Much help really. I can tell you its got Falcon ten gears. Weinmann calipers wheels are 27x 1 1/4.
