Here in York we have a case of someone missing that has hung over the city for 5 years:

Of course it is a single person compared to many but York is a small city that has little crime and her father has spared no effort to discover what happened to his daughter. We have had a lot of time to imagine his feelings and it is easy to feel anger that there is probably someone who committed the crime and others who know something but won't tell. I guess in Malaysia there is a similar feeling and I hope it doesn't take long to discover the truth.

Even though its just one person in the york case, the tragedy remains the same… and yes, I hope so too asterix.

ditto - and please ignore all the tactless comments posted here -- 239 people are presumed lost

latest update
''Police in the Maldives have said they are looking into local reports that a low-flying aeroplane was sighted above Kudahuvadhoo, south-west of the capital Male, around 06:15 local time (01:15 GMT) on 8 March and that its colours matched those of the missing plane.''
and
''The main Maldives airport is one of those featured in the flight simulator discovered at the home of the captain.''

possibly that means nothing if the software pack includes this area anyway
although the Maldives are not within the MA flight areas
it would have to be shown that routes were planned on the sim to this area for any credibility

i've been on pprune daily since the beginning - only conclusion so far is that there is none

With the fuel on board it can be anywhere, we are now relying on the news from the people searching, but I think they may know more than they are letting on...........its gone too quiet from them
I doubt it. If it's in the southern Indian Ocean there's just nothing to see or talk about. I have been down there and believe me those waters are the emptiest on earth

You keep asserting this Dangermouse but I reckon they know what we know, which is very very little... everything besides where it was before it disappeared is speculation and guesswork.

..and there is good reason to believe that information might be withheld. Much of the data needed for the search would have to come from the latest surveillance equipment which naturally means it is rather secret. Sharing data gleaned from such systems provide other countries with information on what your own systems do and are capable of. In Europe, thanks to the EU, countries are nowadays less furtive about such matters than they are likely to be in the South China Seas.
