Missing Girl in Wales...

It would seem that the types who perpetrate the crime that I hope has not occurred here, are now targeting just this type of, quiet, relaxed neighbourhood.

How do you come to that conclusion? Its a one off incident. The first for several years IIRC. How does one incident in several years fit with you vision of packs of paedophiles targeting children in quiet country villages?

We get regular visits from the local police as part of the neighbour hood watch thing. They've started to warn us that the types that we discussing (here) are starting to shift their patterns into the burbs and more regional remote locations. Unfortunately, and worryingly, my local borough now has one of the highest number of registered sex offenders in the south. I think (hope) that we are also one of the highest populated boroughs...but there you go. Either way, these people have moved here from somewhere, for some reason.

By the way, who mentioned packs of paedophiles, that's a little over dramatic.

I pray she's found safe, being a father of 4 and three of them being under 6 it's easy to say I wouldn't let mine do this or that but every area and street has different dangers and as a parent you can only go off your own judgement. I go by the rule I don't care what others let their kids do, I have my rules and ill stick to them.
It's reported she got willingly into van, now I think every parent teaches their kids not to go with strangers these days so if he is known to the child then hopefully that means more leads for the police to go off and a quicker and hopefully happier ending to this

You did - "the types who perpetrate the crime..." - as you euphemistically described it.
I think perhaps the mix up on the helmet thread is colouring your perception of me here. It would have been hugely disrespectful of me to start discussing packs of paedophiles on this thread.

That's not my style. I used the phrase that I did because, frankly, i don't even wish to discuss a crime that has not yet been confirmed as having been committed and one that I hope has indeed not. I hope April is returned safe an sound and that all this proves to be nothing more than an innocent mistake.

and I, and my local beat officer will be proved wrong.

And what about this incident. Massively tragic and two young lives just starting out snuffed out. Should people be called irresponsible for letting their children go out in the car with their parent?

It is indeed tragic and isn't the first and won't be the last. They all seem connected to some sort of relationship breakdown where one partner kills the children out of spite, all very sad.

As for the little girl in Wales, without knowing the full circumstances I'll reserve judgement on the parental responsibilty as now really isn't the time for the blame game, suffice to say I hope she's found safe and well.

As the police are working on the theory that she got into the van of someone she knew it hardly fits the profile of a paedophile targeting a small rural area. There is probably also a much greater chance of getting away with a kidnapping in a big city, being easier to melt into the locality.

A 46 year old local man is being questioned by police whats the bet his pics all over the papers tomorrow guilty until proven innocent
The BBC have already named him.

Nobody should be named until evidence suggests otherwise
This is something I've never understood. How can the press be allowed to name people? They name people who haven't even been charged time after time. Now assuming everyone is innocent until proven guilty do they realise the the damage they could do to people's lives??
This bloke may be guilty but surely until he's charged he shouldn't be named?

The police say they won't be naming him and the BBC comment that he was named locally as **** ******* indicates they are reporting local rumours. I don't think they should have reported his name myself and I hope now the press will stand back from their appalling behaviour in the Jo Yeates case.

Thanks red light that's the case I was thinking of, it happens a lot and I can't work out why no lessons are ever learnt from it.
Mud sticks and sadly a lot of people believe there is no smoke without fire.
I also recall a case of child cruelty not long ago where the courts banned a couple from being named even after they had been found guilty. How the hell does that work?
I want April found safe and the person responsible locked up as much as the next person does but I fail to see what naming a suspect achieves?

The Courts will often prevent people being named in child abuse cases if the adult is related to the child. This is to protect the child's identity, not the adult. Sadly most of these cases are committed by someone who is related to the child or who knows the family. But you're right - everyone has a right to the presumption of innocence.
