Sorry if this has been asked before, I am after another phone, only I'm a bit of an old fart and don't have a clue really. I have always bought Nokias because they were simple to use. My last phone was a Samsung B2100 or something, I can't get along with it though. I only need it for texting and speaking, no facebook or anything. I am sure the £29.99 Nokia jobbies would do the trick, I just fancied one from the 21st century. I did look at this as one option. Then I read the Nokia thread, I'm totally confused now. Can anyone suggest some stress free, possible alternatives. Budget is around £150
Thanks in advance

If you don't need all the bells & whistles then just get a cheap one like the 2330 or the 2730

Am not up with lots of phones, there are just too many. But if you're undecided - this migh be useful - put the model into youtube. There are lots of demo and review videos by people who are just into phones on there; so you may find one or more of the phones youre interested in. If so you will then see it working in action.

If you dont want much on the thing then try to get it as slim as you can. And try the buttons in the shop to see that you are ok with size and feel of them.

£150 can buy a lot!

Dont try to be cool though. You never can be! My kids are annoyed that I have a really cool phone ( I did not know when I got it) but I am so uncool as I keep it in its leather case and press the buttons with my index finger!

The basic Nokia ia all you need, dirt cheap and ultra reliable (the old ones, not the new smartphones)

As Mr P says though, have a quick look at the basic Sony Ericson's. Before I "got into" smartphones, I was a confirmed Nokia fan and reluctantly switched to a Sony Ericson (can't remember why now,) but it turned out to be at least as good as the Nokias.

One of the £29.99 phones should be perfect

Have you considered ebay? It seems to be getting increasingly difficult these days to get a basic phone new, however a second hand phone from ebay with possibly a new battery purcashed shouldn't break the bank. Phones that spring to mind as functional were the Nokia 6230 and the Sony Ericsson T68i and T610.

It's just a thought.

I'm not into smartphones personally.

I bought a Nokia 6300 on payg and bunged an Asda sim in (4p text, 8p call rate) and it's been rock solid. Good camera too. Bluetooth. I can do email and internet on it if I really want to as well, but have only done so for a bit of fun. I have a computer for that!

I have one of those B2100 extremes norm for when I am out on my bike so I dont trash the blackberry, they are a good phone you can get them wet and beat the hell out of them.

Cheers for that, Phil. We were looking at getting one last weekend for Mrs Norm. She's a gardener and her phone is in her back pocket when she's out in all sorts of rubbish, as well as being regularly sat upon, so a smart phone with a large screen and lots of ports would be toasted in seconds. The handiness for use on the bike and motorbike was also a factor in my choice. :becool:

The only reason we didn't get one was that the B2700 (I think) came out back end of last year and we were tossing a coin to choose between the two.

I got one after I got caught in a thunderstorm and I had an LG Cookie in my jacket back pocket and it rained so hard the rain got in the pocket and it stood no chance, the screen looked like a mini fish tank  so I got the samsung to be on the safe side

The upside is the Cookie worked after spending 2 weeks drying out, only 1 Led is not working so it is in my draw of spare mobiles

Thank you all for the advice. Now then all you wizz kids, what do you think of this? Nokia 6303 classic
If you can understand it there is a You Tube video for it.

My other choice is the Nokia 2730 I'm not sure about the buttons though, I'm a bit traditional I like my buttons more ... err ...buttony!

To Norm, that is the one. It is sim free so you can go with anyone, and yes, you can have first dibs if that is what you were asking. Honestly, it is unmarked, and no scratches on the screen, still has plastic protector on the back, ear plugs have never been used, charger, instruction books and box. It is just 12 months old.

Hee Hee - you have similar tastes to Mrs Norm, wobbler, as those two and the C5 made up our list too, although the C5 was a bit of an outsider that my son was campaigning for, it's got most of the visuals of a classic candy bar phone but with messaging and email.

Let us know what sort of price you are thinking of if you do decide to sell, wobbler.
