These short circuits, presumably caused by metal contacting metal?

I once bought a 2nd hand top of the range Volvo from the mid /late 90's it had an enormous piece of telephony kit in the back incl a traditional hand held ear /mouth piece, but in no way accessible from the drivers seat. I guess the previous owner must have had t stopped, open up the rear boot door and sit in there to made his phone call!

For use by the owner while the chauffeur was driving???

It seems to be a common problem, every now and again my phone claims my charging accessory is a bit funked or similar, when in reality the port has fluff in it so the connection between charger and port isn't fully clicking in.

Cue much scratching with a needle to de-fluff it and hey presto its all good for a few months.

I've just ordered a port cover cap thingy from ebay. Lets see if that works...

Does anyone else suffer this or do I have extra fluffy pockets?

That is all.
:okay:

I almost replaced my phone about two years ago - the power lead wouldn't go in fully so it charged ever so slowly.
Then I got a pin and cleaned it out and it's as good as new. Well worth doing every now and then.

First one I had was a brick on top of a very heavy second brick and connected by wires
Something you carry like a handbag with a handset and curly cord you mean? They're generally known as transportables (as opposed to hand portables).

In 1990 there was a Motorola briefcase mobile
We did a briefcase radio for a Saudi oil sheikh once, it was in a crocodile skin case from Asprey's and had a gold plated handset. Underneath the bling it was the same handset as the one on your BT phone, and the same radio in the case that everyone else got. A bit before my time, but I saw one when it came back for repair.
