Even when it wasn't raining my kids seem to naturally gravitate towards water a hosepipe, go for a walk - they find a stream, or , puddles (the youngest is worst for that - he can't cycle past a puddle without going through it.)

I know, but my memories are of laying on the grass on my back, not in some puddle of mud with pissing down rain
you're talking about the summer of 76

I am looking at getting rid of my car if I can get through this winter, my plan is to see how many days I needed thje car before deciding whether to get rid of it or not.
you will find that it is very easy to NEED the car when its lying out there, drawing you in on those cold wet mornings....will I, won't I..???....don't listen to it porridge..!!!!!
....get rid of it now....I did....will make your choice a lot easier....

My car is the 2nd car, so would be a great saving on tax, MOT, insurance if could get rid.
So in the interest of greater financial savings I may just put myself through the torrential rain and howling wind.
...mine was also the 2nd car.....and in theory you will save a lot...thats after you've stopped spending on cycling accessories..!!!!

....the weather is great up here today...Clear skies, Sunshine....no wind...

...the ''Calm before the storm''.......maybe..???

I am DEFINITELY cycling in! This morning it took me 3 hours on public transport. 3 HOURS! There has been a timetable change that will last 2 months so this is the perfect spur to cycle in every day.

It is a lot easier to justify its usage when the static costs (VED) are so high

I have fond memories of that summer, especially when some poor guy from the waterboard whilst trying to install standpipes must have opened the wrong valve creating a huge water fountain shooting 20+ feet in the air! We had a great time splashing and playing in it to cool off

On the bright side, I forecast blistering hot weather for 10 days starting the Friday after this -it's when I'm back home visiting the family and doing a tour of the Yorkshire Dales. I won't even bother bringing waterproofs.

All this talk about wet weather is getting me nervous!

Rather you than me Maz. I don't think I could cope with Ramadan, I'm not built for it. Just tucking into a nice cheese and piccalili sandwich......

I was 8 and I remember it well; hopping about on the concrete slabs outside the front door because they were so hot they burnt your feet / the tar on the pavements and in the roads melting / the incredible thunderstorms when the weather broke.

It was an amazing summer as a kid

Nice one.

Thought you would have boasted about it more.

Have you sold your sirrus? Or is that know your hack and the allez your "nice" bike for long weekend rides?
No, Crock. I've kept the Sirrus, mainly for bad weather commutes I guess.
