I watched a French GCN episode yesterday and the presenter was going to ride two bikes up to Chalet Renard on Mont Ventoux, a distance of 9.5 kms.
One bike was the 1990 bike that Pantani rode, and the other was a modern all carbon bike , to see which was the fastest.
Guess what? The Pantani bike was faster by 5 minutes!!.
So much for modern bikes then hey.

Not seen this video, but GCN aren't great at doing science!🤣

Physics says the lighter bike would be faster. Ergo, it is. But 'so much for modern bikes'? Er, no. Many who attempt that climb would need let alone want lower gearing, perhaps lower even than the 34x34 he was running on the Canyon, because they can't sustain 200W or more. And absolutely all who attempt that climb have to descend at some point.…Maxime noted that the wind was favourable for the run on the Bianchi, not so for the Canyon. And he was clear the Canyon was more comfortable (in terms of ride and gearing).

Did they do it on the bianchi then in the canyon? I reckon I'd be 30 slower second time around! 🤣
