Monty Python. An Attempt to Revive a Dead Parrot?

What do you think of the old team's stage show? Are the these classic sketches best left to our memory vaults or boxed DVD collections or do they still have something to offer? Maybe attracting new fans.

Saw a programme about it t'other night. It was really quite interesting. Surprising how well some of the old stuff stood up, interesting to see what they've been doing since (especially Gilliam - what a nutter!), and revealing on the schoolboyish competitiveness between them. Really, bright English public schoolboys are emotionally warped/stunted like no other creatures on earth.

As to whether the new shows will be any good...hard to say. They'll be greeted with massive enthusiasm by their devoted fans - which of course always helps with anything comedy - and I'm pretty sure a good time will be had by all. Very few 'new fans' tho', would be my guess.

The audiences seemed to love it, but it is not for me.

I watched the shows as a teenager 45 years ago and thought they were brilliant then. The fact that my parents hated them was a bonus!

Regurgitating the same old same old ... naah - they are flogging a dead parrot!

I'm a big fan, but I could not be arsed to go Excel to see it. A mate of mine is going to five nights of it, paid for tickets 'n all!

Probably the last chance to see them all (but one) perform live, the ad libs, gaffs, corpsing and general beggaring around would be worth the price of a ticket alone if their appearances on "Secret Policemans Ball" etc are anything to go by.

10% hilarious, 10% funny and 80% crap.

Monty Python could be brilliant in small doses, but it was mainly rather boring and many of the running jokes ran for so long they made you want to scream. Despite them all being extremely talented it was really the John Cleese show - the series after he left is never aired anywhere now, and for a reason.

You can pick out some hilarious sketches to prove me wrong, but I'll maintain that if you had to sit through the full spectrum of shows you'd soon be bored stiff.
