Limited to 28 mph but can be driven by 16 year olds.

This quote annoyed me. "It beats walking, it beats taking the bus and it's cool," says Aixam's UK director Justin Bond.

What is wrong with the bus, walking or even cycling!! Why are we being spoon fed an aspration to drive cars. And at £10,000 it seems a tad expensive!

I would think he said that line as he wants 16yr. olds to badger their parents to buy one. He is appealing to them directly. Although the article was on newsbeat, it is actually an advertisment packaged as a news item to promote the vehicle.

I remember seeing these in France, I recall they were quite popular for people who had been banned for drink driving. as they could be insured relatively cheaply

True.... But it will reduce the mileage on my BMW as I'll take it to work.
And it will be my pleasure to get him driving.

No-one bohered about a large car-sized obstruction driven by an inadequately trained driver pootling along unrestricted single and dual carriageways at 20-25mph... and even less in towns and up hills?

It's not April 1st somewhere is it?

Archie-tect is right, was talking to my yongest lad about mopeds, if they did 50mph, as they did when I was 16, then I'd happily buy one for him. Then, late 1970's, they were reasonable, viable and economical transportation. No way would I let him have a new one, 30mph is downright dangerous, it's 10mph (minimum) too slow to be able to safely go with the flow. It makes me wince seeing mopeds and 50cc twist & go's being forced, wobbling, into the gutter by drivers with no opportunity to accelerate out of trouble, these things would be 10x worse!
