In my work organisation we often do rides for charity, whether its taking part in a larger organised event and selecting a charity to represent or just a small group doing something like the C2C (some are doing the Lanzerote Ironman this year for testicular cancer) and raising funds that way. With the latter we certainly dont have insurance.
But if you off into the realms of large charity rides, then its certainly sensible to take advice.
