I spoke to a council rep recently who mentioned that the 10 week period includes time for possible delays, so may be open sooner. For those commuting along it, a better route would be to leave in Easton and ride along Russell Town Avenue past the city academy, turn right into Church Road and then you can use the bus lane down to the entrance of Kingsmarsh House on the left and cycle back onto the path.
Well I have started my guerrilla commute over the past 2 days. They have closed the path at the Bird in hand pub all the way to Avon Valley railway however you can get past the Bird in hand end with a walk through the ditch, get a few stingers on the leg but then you can get to Avon Valley where you can slide between a few barriers and back off again. On the way home I had to go on the road via Bitton as they were still working. I can't see why they aren't letting anyone push past on the grass verge.
On the plus side they have already done about 100 meters and the tarmac is soooooo smooth and nice to ride on. I am sure they may get wise and start to bolt the barriers together at some point but I will just come up with another plan.
Well the closures to the cycle path don't seem to be holding me up at all currently.
The closure at Lawrence Hill is usable and the barriers have been open for the past week or so and the widening work is great.
The closure at Avon Valley is still "officially closed" Monday through Friday however if you don't mind hoping the fence at Avon Valley its open. They have now put lovely new tarmac all the way to the picnic area on the Avon where the kids like to swim in the summer. I am not sure if they are actually resurfacing all the way to Saltford but if they do I am not going to complain. The good news is its is opened every Friday tea time up to 7am on Monday morning.
Compared to the tunnel saga both councils seem to have got good contractors and they seem to be making good time with the work.
I went through the new bit at Lawrence Hill yesterday, and it's looking good!!! Just not finished but I like the idea of leaving the barriers open so you can go through.
I have just had an email from the cycling fella at South Gloucestershire council and the work at bitton is complete. They finished a week early, heaven help us all.

I went through it this morning...space! (the final front-ear). Still a bit of work to do, finishing off the surfacing but hey, I like it. No more pinch point!.
