If I ever get a scam email, I set up a filter in gmail for that address to send them to 'the bin' so I never/seldom see them again. It's cold calls that bug me, as (many of you know) my daughter has epilepsy, and a call might be a hospital ... so I tell the cold caller how they are inconveniencing me ... some of them actually apologize (then I block that number)

Bad idea. Sometimes they use random email addresses that they found on the internet (a "Joe job") so your potty-mouthed abuse could be going to another innocent victim. It's been a long time since I saw any spammer stupid enough to send out from their own email address (they use link click-tracking to detect live email addresses), so replying with abuse is far more likely to go elsewhere or bounce back.
If I receive a random email telling me to "get f****d", then I'm going to be less likely to clicky linkys in it, no?

Call it a "spoiler".

For those now off the bike for the winter and have time on their hands, there is a great hobby of "scambaiting".
The rules are as arcaine as those for Commuter Racing

You can loose an afternoon on this site reading the stories, some of them are wonderfully elaborate

Kept a "George Page" in Aberdeen busy for a while. Popped his clogs before he could hand everything over though.

Managed to get his address and phone number, which seemed to finish him off.

If it sounds too good to be true . . . .
It might just be two people with the same name. Only their age differs, and the end of the e-mail address.

A change from the usual scams, although that's what I thought it was at first. Yesterday I received around 20 emails, all supposedly containing my member points statement from a bunch of assorted hotels.

Only problem was that I'd never heard of any of them, but apart from that the emails looked genuine and didn't appear to contain any dodgy links or obvious phishing.

Then, a couple of hours later, came this:

"Inspire Loyalty are the programme provider and data processor for a variety of independent hotel companies in the UK. Your email address is registered on our database as an existing or previous member of a hotel programme which we represent.

This afternoon we emailed loyalty statements for all hotel clients we represent to our entire member database, instead of the specific hotel you registered in the past or present. Therefore you have received email statements from other hotels we represent which were not relevant to you. We understand this experience may have caused concern to the security of your data but please be assured your information is only stored by us and today's email communication was a administrative error. We assure your information is still secure.
If you do not want to receive future member communications you can unsubscribe by clicking on the link below.

Again, please accept our sincere apologies.

Kind regards

I got two from "tv licencing" ....one to say it ran out in October and the other as a warning to pay.
Just to double check there was no slip up I went onto the official site and fed my licence details in.
There it was......clearly saying it is next due Sept 2019.
On the first page there is a warning about scam emails and the official advice is simply to delete them.

No, it would be a monthly pay phone scam.
Like all the " your a winner" from Sainsbury's Morrisons Tescos ect
£500 claim your prize now!!
It is a legitimate business, not a scam
Model is to give away first pack of beer, for which you must sign up to a DD for future months. You can cancel the DD
They rely on folk not cancelling the DD and keeping on receiving overpriced beers every month
If you make sure you cancel the DD after receiving the first pack of beers, go for it
