I've ridden relatively little since the winter, but middle child was due to play football in N Herefordshire, about 40 miles from home.

80-mile round trip with a few minutes watching footie... Beautiful weather... What could possibly go wrong?

Well, nearly everything.

1. I sailed off towards Brecon when about 20 miles out, for no reason I can fathom.

2. I missed the match completely, so didn't get my expected rest.

3. I am not yet ready for 80 miles in one afternoon.

4. Everything aches. Everything.

The round trip comfortably exceeded 80 miles because of stupid route issue...

Good things?

I'm not dead. Even though it feels as if I slightly am.

Am I the only one who got keener than was appropriate in this beautiful weather?

last spring at the first sign of nice weather, i went straight out for a ride, only picked up my mobile and a drink but no money, so eager was i to get out.The inevitable happened got a p..ct...e only to find my solution had dried up. luckily for me the kind chap at a cycle shop "sold" me some gueless patches :blush: went back later to pay what i owed. only did about 25 miles that day, but felt much more. Nice weather + bad preparation=disaster
