I could probably get through most of that myself, although I'm not a fan of pork unless it's in sausages.

How many days has the steak been hung? ASDA have 14 day hung and it looks vile , I won’t buy supermarket plastic packed meat if I can help it. Rather spend a little extra on decent meat from s good local independent butcher

Having a massive debate on the Book of Faces about this and I'm wondering what fellow CCers think.

The assumption the peeps I'm debating against are making is that this lot should last the full 14 days; red meat every day for the full two weeks and saying it won't last. And then there's me, who is saying it can be done if you're very creative and think outside the box - those sausages will make 32 meatballs for starters...

It should be a piece of p**s to make this last if you have fish a couple of times in that fortnight, along with egg / cheese / veggie dishes in there as well.

I certainly don't eat meat for my main meal every day... This lot would last me for quite some time.
That looks like a slim plate for one, for ten days.

Two sausages isn’t exactly a slap up dinner, but it’s doable. One sausage only is fightin’ talk.

And calling that a giant meat pack is asking for trouble.

I'd do that on my own in a week . Almost have already
Roast the joint on a Sunday , leftovers for sarnies . Mince is spag bol for two nights . Two stews and the sausages for breakfasts all week .
Now if they did a megga deal on beer i might bother to go there .

I don't know about Asda but according to Miss Goodbody @Fnaar has very well hung meat

I can't remember the last time we had fresh meat from a supermarket. It seldom looks appealing to me in it's plastic wrapping, whereas, my local butchers makes my mouth water and my knees go weak every time I go in, (stop it @Fnaar).

The only trouble is that while his meat is vastly superior, (leave it @Fnaar), you certainly couldn't "feed a family" for a fortnight for a tenner.

We usually buy our meat from a butcher and rarely buy meat from a supermarket. Our regular butcher is in Coventry market, the only problem with him is he seems to think I want feeding up, if I buy a pork chop for example I get the biggest one on the stall. That meat pack is a good size but there's not a big veriety to it and it's too big for us.

I'm assuming 2 adults and 2 kids here. Recommended daily intake of meat for an adult is as above, for a child it's 50g or 2oz.

Just looking at the 2lb pork joint alone and going on the above, it should last for three days. Taking into account the weight of the contents and looking at the number of portions, and, say, if you padded out the beef mince with beans for a chilli, turned the sausages into meatballs and put them in a pasta bake with loads of veggies and cheese, and the stewing steak with chickpeas and tatties in a curry, you wouldn't be far off. And then if you had a couple of days where you had fish and a couple of days say a pizza or a FB pie (LOL) then you'd be there or thereabouts.

Throw in that veg box into the mix and you'd be doing pretty well.

I'm not sure if this is indicative of anything, but certainly made me want a decent local butcher.

When the local Morrison's has Christmas off, or The Beast From the East comes - one day of the butcher section not being used can create a stench that reaches to the top quarter of the aisles it faces.

It makes me wonder how good their hygiene practice is. Perhaps that's normal, I can't say.
