what people need to remember is that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of cyclists and presumably motorcyclists during the trial due to the fact that both means of transport are substantially cheaper than running a car. The crucial point is that the number of accidents between motorcyclists and cyclists hasn't increased, despite this.

I for one have definitely felt no more in danger since the trial began.

edit:
I've just read a few of the comments and it seems that motorcyclists seem to get a lot of the same problems we do, I feel closer to our faster brethren.

I don't like motor cyclists in bus lanes. They pass too close and much too fast.
Speed cameras that only covered the bus lanes would have them all using the other lanes again.

"Overall conclusions:

The effect of permitting motorcycles into bus lanes has been assessed
after 10 months of implementation. This analysis period is the minimum
where any reasonably large effects can be ascertained. This has identified
that motorcyclists appear to be less safe since the scheme has been
introduced. There were no changes in the safety of cyclists and
pedestrians that could be directly attributed to the motorcycles being
permitted access to the bus lanes."

Wasn't motorcyclist safety given as the original reason for this trial?

The way I read it was that the increase in collisions involving motorcycles was because drivers were left hooking them when turning into side streets. Other than that they had hardly any impact on other traffic using the bus lanes.

The results take account of this -- there are more accidents than the increase in motorcycling accounts for.

From my experience, for the best part most of them tend to ride towards the outside of the bus lane. I expect them to be there now so am kind of used to it anyhow, it's when they park up at the front of the cycle asl that they annoy me.

Has anyone noticed that the motorbikes in ASLs are now all over the place - where before the tended to be sat out toward the right. I suppose the are now coming up the bus lanes to get in there.

Yes, it really annoys me how they fill up the whole ASL and the filter lane to it.
I have on a few occasions been in an ASL surrounded by motorbikes and when i set off i just hated it, all rushing to get to the front, revving engines and cutting me up.

One of the reasons I avoid the Tower Gateway to Southwark Bridge route is motorcycles use the cycle lane sometimes with scant regard for cyclists.
