How does racing bicycles on public roads have anything to do with racing cars on public roads?

I think its a great idea. It will bring a lot of money, kudos and advertising to London.

They close the roads for a weekend and have an international spectacle. Fantastic.

i was surprised by this... mainly, as @pplpilot pointed out, it's been done.

when the TDF came over in the 90's it did need a special mandate as the organisers require completely closed roads. i thought the law was already in place to allow 'racing' on closed roads due to this and the Birmingham GP (another one where a law was implemented to allow it).

How about more participation and fewer hyped up marketing events dominated by money and spoilt boys with toys.

A monthly no-car day in every city with street markets and linear busker/ street theatre competitions... with street sport for everyone, free art and garden days...

Pedal car grand prix.... now that I'd pay to see.

I think it is just the locals trying to encourage more motorsport races through the New Forest.
