motorcycle, with bike rack?

I travel to the airport a fair bit and on the last two occasion (m25) I have seen a motorcycle (sports bike) with a black road bike hanging from the back.

I'm intrigued to know more about this and have questions...like..how, why, does it damage the bike (it seems to be attached by either the headset or the front forks, front wheel is out and mounted to the side) does it cause any added risk...it sticks out a bit, about the length of a bicycle actually.

Its not mounted sideways or vertically but sticks straight out the back of the bike.

I'm fascinated

One thing is for sure. The person riding, loves riding on two wheels

I have seen one with both wheels out and there was frame for the wheels and the main frame roughly where rear seat on motor bike is. Looked good - wish I knew as well.

Depends what it's sitting on I suppose, if there's a nice foam pad under there, it should all be good I reckon. I doubt it would affect the motorbike any more than one of those big boxes they mount out the back.

Its a bit of a odd set up but as a bike weighs about 8,15kg it would be no problem controlwise ,but a strong side wind would be intresting.id not be to keen if it was a small 125 etc or a scooter?

woud think when attached to a 220kg bie like the vfr you would probably forget its even there

I've seen it a few times back in the day including on a scooter, and a club mate had a Francis Barnett Combination with a rack for two bikes on the back. He gave me a lift home from a race once and both of us plus the two bikes were on the motorbike itself as the floor had gone in the sidecar and I couldn't sit in it. It certainly made left handers interesting.

Pre helmet days and both of us in cycling shorts, 'elf & safety would have a fit today. I ended up with an oiled sock courtesy of a dodgy seal in the gear casing.

actually it's quite pertinant to my own needs. My motorcycle menders is a pain to get to by public transport, but I'd dismissed sticking my (push) bike over my shoulder on the MC as a recipe for being stopped by PC Plod - 'elf n safety gorn maad i tell you.
