Remember the anti static strips dangling from the rear of cars? Whatever were they supposed to be doing?

Allegedly helped prevent car sickness.

Whilst filling up the Note earlier at 1.749 per litre I watched a chap in his 50's tip half a bottle of Redex into the tank of the VW Tiguan he was filling up.

Not seen Redex being used for years and certainly not by age of the driver or type of car I would have expected to be using it.

On my return to the driver's seat swmbo asked me to explain what the guy had been doing.

So how many other myths are still in use by motorists ...

Where is the "myth" in that?

Redex is a cleaner, supposed to clean fuel injectors, making them more efficient, and it is still readily on sale. You don't see people using it all that often, true, and probably less useful on modern engines, but not sure why you are calling it a myth.

I don't understand any of the last 100 posts but I've only ever put petrol in my car and it seems to still work

Wait till you find out your van can email you about a fault or faults when it's 10 miles away at the dealers and they are running diagnostics. I didn't know. Mind blown.

They are supposed to be fitting a fuel pump but it's just emailed me there is a stop driving engine fault and an auto gearbox fault. I am no where near it ?

Isn't it the same as premium petrol?

My dad had a part added that would stop me being sick. He showed it to me. Can't remember if it worked! Strange that they didn't all come with one really.

I believe that diesel fuel additives can make a difference if used from the start I.e when the car is new. I had a diesel Passat with high mileage, the dpf light was always coming on. I'd put in additive on a long trip up north, then a week later in traffic it would come on again. My theory was that if it's clogged with old, fine soot then no amount of "burning it off" can get all the old, fine, caked on soot out of the thing unless it's professionally torn apart and cleaned

These things often work much better if the "patient" knows they are there

with me it was a specific make of fruit drops - but only the lime "flavour"

The strip was supposed to earth any static electricity that could cause car sickness in some people

as I said - especially if they knew it was there

A had a few people pointing and laughing at me as I added Redex as I was filling up yesterday.

Don't care. My Dad used Redex every time, and he knew all about cars. He adjusted his own points, he was that good.

Anyway, I'm a bit less fastidious than him. I only use it for the CCS chargers. When using Type 2 at home I don't bother. I don't trust those electrons from commercial chargers.
