Firstly, Derek Warwick, who took over the #8 Brabham after Elio de Angelis was killed at a private test at Paul Ricard.

Secondly, Christian Danner, who replaced Marc Surer at Arrows after Marc smashed himself up in a rallying accident.

. Well done . Lafitte broke his legs at Brands Hatch 86 also and Alliot drove the second Ligier. That was the end of Lafitte's F1 career. Who is the lady sitting at the table beside hirsute Mansell? clue ; her husband drove 1 race in Lotus T128/Renault

Drat, I'd forgotten about Jolly Jacques, probably because I was so chuffed to have remembered about Marc Surer! Whoops!

In my defence, I was only 11 in 1986.

ps Looks a little more likely now that Max might to to Merc in 26 , stronger rumours emerging from different sources saying it could be announced at Zandvoort

Easy peasy lemon squeazy, that's the Class of '86...

Back row, L-R: Theo Fabi, Piercarlo Ghinzani, Alan Jones, Martin Brundle, Alboreto, Ayrton Senna, Stefan Johansson, Andrea De Cesaris, Gerhard Berger, Huub Rothengatter, Thierry Boutsen, Allen Berg, Alessandro Nannini, Jonathan Palmer, Patrick Tambay

Front row, L-R: Philippe Alliot, Christian Danner, Philippe Streiff, Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet, Rene Arnoux, Jean-Marie Balestre (FISA president), Alain Prost, Keke Rosberg, Johnny Dumfries, Derek Warwick, Riccardo Patrese

Yep, nerdy me! And no, I didn't have to look anyone up

I wouldn’t have got Allen Berg in a million years, but got everyone else.

Jules Bianchi .... 10 year anniversary of his fatal crash ( [" passing "is a diluted word to camouflage stark brutal death - ) I vividly remember watching race live and Martin Brundle commenting he felt very uneasy about heavy recovery vehicle on side of track in bad weather and no red flag.We all know what happened next. I remember posting something about this a few years ago , I feel angry that in the modern era something like this could have happened . Where was the scrupulous inquiry ?

ps Drago ( who posts here a lot ) was hospitalised overnight and got a scary medical intervention needed moment. He is coming around now. Send him your best wishes

Motor racing safety has always been a day late and a dollar short.

On Monday, it'll be the 34th anniversary of Paul Warwick's fatal crash at Oulton Park. I'll be going down to pay my respects at his grave like I always do.

A great driver sadly missed.
Was his F3000 press officer, including that terrible day at Oulton Park.

Lovely lad who probably wouod have done even better than Derek. I had literally moved from the spot he was killed, perhaps a lap earlier.
Pleased I did as well. RIP youngman.

Listening to Derek on the Beyond the Grid podcast, he had no doubt who was the greater talent. Motorsport has not always rewarded the best drivers, especially F1 at that time. There can be no guarantee that he would have got his chance, but such a shame he was robbed of his in such a way. Race drivers are often selfish, hardened people but you could hear the emotion in Derek's voice when he spoke about Paul.
