Try cycling on a motorway and then wrestling with police as they put you in the back of their van and you'll find out.

He's an Idiot. Much like in the current Red Lights thread, cycling in the motorway is illegal. Those cars driving at 70mph is extremely dangerous for the cyclist.

But cycling on A-roads in a 60-70mph zone is....error... safer? At least that's legal.

A few people went cycling down the M1 when they closed it for fear of the Ulley Reservoir bursting it's wall a few years back. I didn't have a bike back then, but I wouldn't have fancied my chances of out-riding the water had it gone.
