Be very careful squeezing anything into the rear which is wider than what is intended… the series 1 forks are pretty fragile. But if you replace them with the series 2 versions you have a bit more wiggle room. That raises the bottom bracket a bit but also tightens up the frame angles. I fitted a Sturmey Archer 8 speed hub (the narrow version) in one of mine. Another possibility for more gears is a Brompton BWR hub and two speed derailleur, quieter and lighter. I confess to having two original Moultons, one 1962 and one 1963.
