Living Legend & Old Fart
Wrong -Sylvester McCoy as Dr Who as was Cilin Baker who, in my mind will always be the villainous Paul Merroney in the Brothers.
Wrong but,, to me Batman will always be the slightly camp portrayal by Adam West

Squire
Right: Gene Hackman as Popeye Doyle
Wrong, but somehow it works...Sean Connery as Robin Hood (Robin & Marion - with Audrey Hepburn...a little-known gem - the movie, that is, Ms Hepburn being quite well known really)
Stinker: another vote for the beleagured Mr Case as Captain Corelli. Awful.

[Interesting aside in the region of people who are 'somehow wrong but right'...I saw Jimmy McGovern interviewed once and the subject of Cracker came up. He said he had a really clear picture in his mind's eye of Fitz - he was going to be a short, wiry bundle-of-energy terrier-type bloke...something like that Begby nutter in Trainspotting. Then the producer came back and said 'we've cast Robbie Coltrane', and he thought 'you what?!' "But he turned out to be perfect, and now I can't imagine anyone else ever fitting the role."]

Nic Cage was great in Con Air, a ridiculous piece of film nonsense but great fun.

Christian Bale, very good actor - liked him in The Fighter, and The Machinist, Batman and others.

Charles Laughton in Hobson's Choice, perfect, as is all the casting.

Moving into telly

Right- David Jason a as Del boy (noone else could be that character)
Wrong- Jimmy Nesbit in Murphy's law- far to camp and chirpy to pull of a YMCA moustache with menace

LCpl Boiled Egg

Three word soundbite
Right- John Lithgow in Cliffhanger...I can watch that film just for him, he pulls of a sociopathic villain really well.

He plays the villian in season 4 of Dexter. We watched the whole thing over a long weekend and his performance was fantastic. Didn't realise he was such a good actor until I saw him in Dexter, but apparently he won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for it.

Krister is the slightly odd looking guy in the original Swedish ones for TV. He always seemed too gentle somehow and I could never imagine him getting into the situations in the books, although he's still my favourite by a country mile precisely because he doesn't let it get too gritty, and becuase you watch him strike up a relationship with Jussi (pronounced Yoo-see), his dog.
I thought he was really good...........

Dustin Hoffman in 'Heat'. It's a fantastic film, and everybody in it is right en pointe - except Hoffman who cannot stop himself hamming it up.

Another defence of Nick Cage - he's great as Sailor in Wild at Heart.
well..........sort of. He played an idiot. That's not really acting.

He's a good actor. He's done plenty of small roles in his career and a few bigger ones. I don't think he's quite landed some of the roles he deserves, but then again there's the risk in saying that that one means massive blockbusters - I don't mean that. Nor do I think Lithgow would complain about it - he's done loads and loads of stuff outside films he's very happy with.

Right - Andy Serkis in any film he's ever been in, ever.

Wrong - Sean (or Seen, or Shawn/Shorn etc) Connery in every film he's been in since Bond, including In The Name Of The Rose, The Hunt For Red October etc, but not including Entrapment
