Moving house by bike (London)

At the end of this month I'm moving house about half a mile down the road. When I moved in here (about a mile down the same road, in the other direction) I hired a Cycles Maximus from Velorution to shift all my stuff, which was in some ways a great idea (I presently live on a red route, but the bike could park on the pavement while I was loading it) and in other ways less ideal (they wanted it back by close of business, which as I recall was quite early - 5 or 6pm)

Does anyone have any other suggestions for where in London to get a seriously large workbike for the day or maybe two days? By "seriously large" I'm really looking for something bigger than an 8 freight/brox compact - don't have any really big furniture, but do have a few chests of drawers and some bookcases, and would like not to have to make seven million journeys.

Not cheaper. Not when you factor in the cost of a red route suspension permit thingy. Also, my woefully stringy upper body muscles get a respite from carrying stuff while I pedal from one flat to the other, and I'm quite good at pedalling.

But I didn't have a vehicle and was too young to hire one at a reasonable price

It wasn't like it was up a big hill or anything


I do know someone who moved house on a skateboard. That is pretty H/C

all depends on how much gear you have, when you hitched with kids it's like an army marching, only without the manpower

single blokes can get all their worldlies in a suitcase and two cardboard boxes, mind you I still can, it's les autres that are the problem

Agreed to some extent

However, there is something disconcerting about a 20 year old heavy 22" CRT telly swaying wildly on the back of one of those cheap rear luggage carriers (the ones with one leg and the "mousetrap" sprung clamp thing)

Only problem is, their in America. They are also the manufacturer & supplier.
So unless your able to come by a second hand one you have to buy from them.

i reckon an offset tv mast, u bolts and a set of wheelbarrow wheels and axle bolted to a set of lightweight alloy ladders would do just as good a job and you can get all those bits at b&q
