A Minging Manc...
 I've had an inch 'n' half wood screw, halfway round a roundabout (primary in middle lane, indicating left to leave on third exit) that was a bit instant but that's a real freaky one.
I did pick up a steel rod through the tyre on a commute in the early days. It was chromed and approx. ¼" thick, and originally about 2½" long! I say originally as I pulled a piece of about 1½" in length out of the tyre and fitted a new tube before continuing to work. At lunch time I fixed the damaged tube and lightly inflated it to check for any other holes. It was then that I noticed something rattling around loose in the tube, the other piece of the rod! I had to snip a little hole in the tube to remove the item then repair it again . The rod must have been thrust through the tyre and hit the rim before part snapped off inside the tube.

That and the Stanley blade rate high on the freaky-o-meter of puncture experiences but as they both happened close to the Bredbury tip facility (probably the biggest (ex)authority controlled refuse and waste disposal site in East Manchester) not a surprise.

I went for over a year without one, but in the past 3 weeks, I've had 4!

Last one was yesterday morning, on way back from Barbers (closed! "grr!"), it looked like an 'industrial staple, of the type used on large cardboard boxes
Then again, it was 'bin morning'
