I thought M+ could only handle something as long as a thumbtack?

If there's anything positive to take away from the experience it's that the BAs can be removed very easily, the whole process took minutes - impressed myself as I've not had a "visitation" in over five years - (although plenty of tyre swapping in the back yard lately).

Yes, I noticed how easily they went on, almost too easily as I had a little bit of an issue trying to keep everything on the rim. It kept flopping off in all directions in Mr Bean fashion.

I still needed tyre levers to put them on first time - todays repair only required me to pop it off on one side and I used only one lever. The hardest part was removing the screw - note to self to start packing a multitool with pliers built in.

I didn't need levers at all, could have done with a third hand though. ;)

I always carry a Leatherman multi-tool, have done for years. Saved my blushes on too many occasions to count both on the bike and in the car.

Prised the sucker out with the bottle opener on my Swiss Army knife! Took more than a few goes - I should have tried to turn it out with the crosshead attachment on my spoke key come to think....

I want to replace the tyres on an old GT Aggressor to turn it into a mainly commuter oriented bike that is still capable of soft roading.

What tyres would you recommend?

I've read somewhere that Schwalbe Land Cruisers are good, they're certainly a good price. Would you recommend these? Or something else?

Thanks

specialised cross roads armadillo - have worn out 2 sets without a single puncture.

On road the central running strip give low resistance off road the side knobbles bite in

I was in the same boat when I had my fist MTB for work. I changed to Schwalbe Road Cruisers. Dirt cheap from fredstreads. Made a big difference to my commute. Later changed to Marathons. Even better (although they don't like wet drain covers)

Hope this thread isn't getting too old to resurrect - I'm catching up on stuff here .

I have had the specialized crossroads (non armadillo) for a few years now. They now need replacing.

I think the armadillo's are quite a bit heavier? Is it worth going for the Elite's (lighter) despite costing £10-15 more each? Any downsides to them?
