Both seem decent, but the Sulcata is only worth what they've got it up for now, it's not really worth £650

I'd go for the Voodoo personally, the spec better matches its price and you get hydraulic brakes, which is great for that price point. It would be the better bike for doing some proper off-road if you wanted to.

Only thing that worries me is that ive never heard of the VooDoo range till today. where as Carrera have been around for years. I just don't know what to do.

Look at decathlon perhaps? The rockriders fair well in reviews

Looks like a decent spec for similar cash, sram, hydraulic brakes, a little over 13kg, lock out for commuting on roads

No halfords involvement...

The calibre was very light when I saw it, but quality control was just not good enough.
The reviews don't mention this, but I suppose seeing is believing, I should really pop along to the shop and have a look, this was a bike that caught my eye recently.

I think you would appreciate the lower rolling resistance of a 29er, both on road and trail.

The Voodoo looks good, but has 2.2" tyres, albeit good ones, but they are wider than you need.

How about a Cannondale?

The budget allows for a lower end Trail 6, but it does at least have a SAVE frame which I can testify does give a smooth and compliant ride for an ally bike.

"The calibre was very light when I saw it, but quality control was just not good enough." -- this review does :okay:

It was alongside a Caliber road hybrid that was also quite light but I was genuinely surprised to find the Two Two to be almost as light.

Problem was the finish on both frame paint jobs wasn't great and worse still, the grips slid about all over the place and the seatpost wouldn't stay in position.

I also couldn't shift gears at all on the hybrid.

Possibly some of this is down to setup in-store but at the very least would require extra spend at the local bike shop to check and rectify. At any rate I lost confidence in the brand after that.
