The time has come for me to fit mudguards to my Roberts Roughstuff tourer.

It has 26 inch wheels and currently has

Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres (26 x 1.75) - which have been very reliable.

So looking to get some guards that will not only look good, but also be durable and offer good protection from the upcoming (I guess sometime), winter weather..

Advice really appreciated...

I'm very happy with SKS. Easy to fit and have survived some abuse.

Yes - from what I've read - SKS seem to be the obvious choice - but wondered if there were better available?

I think Salmon do some very expensive aluminium ones. The SKS (and others) 'chromeplastic' type delaminate over time, letting water in between the layers and this can look unsightly. The ordinary black ones seem to last for ages.
